Sudbury, ON – Science North’s IMAX® film Jane Goodall’s Wild Chimpanzees has been selected as a finalist for two international awards at the Giant Screen Theatre Association (GSTA) Achievement Awards and is expected to do well. The awards recognize achievements in film, lifelong learning, and marketing in the giant screen industry. The 2003 Awards will be presented during the GSTA Achievement Awards Dinner at the GSTA's Annual Convention in Glasgow Scotland.
"This film has been getting excellent reviews world-wide," said Jim Marchbank, Science North's CEO and Executive Producer of Jane Goodall's Wild Chimpanzees. "It has wide audience appeal, provides excellent education value and is a great family film. All of these factors make it a leading contender for the GSTA Achievement Awards."
The film, which has been leased by more than 60 large screen theatres including most of the educational theatres world-wide, premiered in Sudbury in May 2002. It has been selected as a finalist for the "Best Film" and "Best Film for Learning" Awards at the GSTA.
"When we brought this film to the GSTA membership last year, the reaction was very gratifying," said David Lickley of Science North's Large Format Films and Director of Jane Goodall's Wild Chimpanzees. "With such a strong, positive reaction from people in the industry, people from around the world, we are very hopeful for a strong showing at the GSTA
Achievement Awards."
Science North also entered the category of "Best Film Launch" Award for the opening events and activities leading up to the premiere in Sudbury.
"We were very fortunate that Dr. Jane Goodall was present when the film premiered at Science North's IMAX® theatre," said Brenda Tremblay, Director of Business Operations at Science North. "We implemented a very cohesive marketing plan which included very strong visuals and developed great partnerships with local media. We hope that all of our efforts will be recognized by our peers in Scotland."
Jane Goodall’s Wild Chimpanzees is a giant screen journey into the hearts, minds and world of wild chimpanzees with the world's most famous field researcher, Dr. Jane Goodall. The film chronicles Dr. Goodall's more than 40 years of legendary work among the chimps at Gombe Park on Lake Tanganyka in Africa. Viewers will be led by Dr. Goodall, as well as the new generation of young researchers, into the daily lives of the now famous Gombe chimp families; Fifi and sons Freud and the turbulent alpha male Frodo, along with Gremlin, Gaia and the endearing Galahad.
Jane Goodall's Wild Chimpanzees is a Science North production, directed by Science North's David Lickley. It is the third giant-screen film produced by Science North, the only science centre that does in-house IMAX production. The film's executive producers are Jim Marchbank, CEO, Science North; Mike Day, Director and Executive Producer of the OMNI Theatre at the Science Museum of Minnesoty; and Freda Nicholson, President Emeritus of Discovery Place Inc. in Charlotte, North Carolina.
